Two participants from Fulham FC Foundation’s Para Talent Hub enjoyed a truly memorable evening recently, as they had the chance to be mascots for Fulham Under-21s versus Olympique Lyonnais in the Premier League International Cup Semi-Final at Craven Cottage.

We spoke to Albert on how he found the experience and what being a participant with Fulham FC Foundation means to him.

Mascot Experience

Albert expressed his delight at being selected for the occasion, stating, "I felt very special and lucky to be chosen." Walking out onto the pitch alongside the players was a moment Albert described as making him feel "special and excited."

Throughout the match, Albert’s enthusiasm remained high, particularly praising Fulham U21s captain Matt Dibley-Dias, who he walked out onto the pitch with. "Matt was my favourite player. He spoke to me a lot and mentioned that there were over 2,000 people in attendance," Albert recalled.

Not only did Albert walk out with the team, but he also had the chance to watch the match from the Cottage balcony, offering a full view of the action. Albert’s highlight of the game came from Fulham’s first corner of the second half, a moment he believed could have resulted in a goal. "I was really hoping the game would go to extra-time and penalties. I loved the whole experience and preferred it to any other football stadium I have visited," he added.

Albert’s experience was made even more special when he learned that his brother’s friend had recognised him on the broadcast of the game, leading the players onto the pitch, a moment that filled him with immense pride.

Involvement in Fulham FC Foundation sessions

Since joining Fulham FC Foundation’s DisAbility sessions in February 2023, Albert has enjoyed significant personal and sporting development. He praised the coaches and the friendships he has formed with enhancing his experience, as well as "playing in more different positions than I do for my grassroots football team”.

Albert’s inclusion in the England Para Talent Pathway is a source of great pride and motivation for him. "It makes me feel proud, and hopefully, if I am good enough, I will one day represent England."
