Fulham Under-18s held league leaders Spurs to a 1-1 draw at Motspur Park this morning.

Fulham Halt Spurs

Saturday 3 November 2018 13:46

Fulham Under-18s held league leaders Spurs to a 1-1 draw at Motspur Park this morning.

Timmy Abraham opened the scoring after a swift counter attack before Phoenix Patterson levelled the game. Harvey Elliott saw a late spot kick saved as Luis Binks was shown a straight red card.

Spurs started the game with a high intensity press, trying to force Fulham into early mistakes. Sonny Hilton and Ben Davis coped well with the challenge in the main.

A nice move from one side to the other allowed Cody Drameh and Harvey Elliott to link up nicely. The full back’s cross was gathered by Josh Oluwayemi in the Spurs goal.

Jeremie Mukendi had his first sight at goal when Brooklyn Lyons-Foster lifted a ball into the channel, the forward tried to angle his shot into the far post, but it evaded the post.

Phoenix Patterson seized on a second ball to drive at the Fulham defence, but Drameh got in to make the block.

Tottenham held the ball for long periods, limiting the Young Whites to minimal chances. However, the visitors were still feeding off individual errors. Connor McAvoy presented the ball to Dilan Markanday, but his through pass was cut out by the alert Zico Asare.

Fulham grew into the game and a couple of diagonal passes allowed them to get in down either flank. Elliott’s cross flashed across the face of goal and Drameh’s ball nearly fell for Timmy Abraham.

Spurs did have the ball in the net just before the break, but Mukendi was adjudged offside from a through ball.

At the interval, the back four held firm, keeping the infamous Spurs attack at bay.

Fulham came out with positivity in the second half. Hilton’s lofted pass found the run of Drameh but his snapshot volley sailed past the post. The visitors did hit back and carve out the best chance of the game. Markanday was set clear on the right side of the box but Toni Stahl narrowed the angle to make the winger balloon his shot over the top.

Stahl was called into action again to tip Patterson’s strike around the post at full stretch.

The Whites completed their smash and grab when Davis won the ball high to allow Fabio Carvalho to find the perfectly timed run of Abraham who clinically dispatched past Oluwayemi.

The visitors did level the game when Patterson took aim from a loose ball to fire into the bottom corner past Stahl.

Elliott and Sylvester Jasper combined on the break as Hilton sprung forward on the counter. The wingers’ shot was beaten past the near post. Abraham embarked on another powerful run on the counter attack which ended with his lashing a shot narrowly over the bar.

Asare heroically prevented Spurs from taking the lead as he got back to get in the way of a powerful Clarke strike.

Hilton’s dipping cross nearly deceived the Tottenham stopper but he was alert to push the ball over the bar.

Patterson was at the heart of every Spurs move as he wriggled through and sent in a cross for substitute Jubril Okedima to force Stahl into another save.

The Young Whites were awarded a penalty two minutes from time. Carvalho was pulled back inside the area and Luis Binks was shown a straight red card for denying him. Elliott’s penalty was stopped low and squirmed away for a corner.

Elliott was keen to make amends as he spun his man and sent a beautifully weighted pass into Terry Ablade as he had just entered the fray. Oluwayemi to the rescue again to deny the forward.
